Copying text out of a PDF reader often goes wrong: you get one page at a time, odd line breaks, or a selection that refuses to cover the whole document. This tool reads the text layer of the PDF and gives you all of it at once, in reading order, ready to paste or save as a .txt file.
Choose the pages you need, add a “--- Page N ---” marker between pages if you want to keep track of where things came from, and drop in several PDFs to get one text file for each.
How to use
- Select or drop one or more PDF files.
- Leave Pages empty for the whole document, or enter pages such as 1-3, 5.
- Turn the “--- Page N ---” separators on or off.
- Press Extract text, then copy the result or download it as .txt (several PDFs come as a ZIP of .txt files).
Why use Deftivo
No upload
The PDF is read in your browser. Contracts, statements and drafts never leave your device.
Clean lines
Text is rebuilt line by line from where it sits on the page, with blank lines between paragraphs and no stray spaces inside Chinese or Japanese text.
Opens anywhere
The .txt file is saved as UTF-8 with a byte order mark, so Korean, Japanese and accented letters display correctly even in Windows Notepad.
Why is my result empty?
A scanned PDF is a set of photos of paper. There is no text in it to extract — only pixels. The tool tells you which pages have no text. Recognising letters in images (OCR) is not supported here.
PDFs laid out in columns or with tables may come out in a slightly different order, because the text is taken in the order the PDF stores it. If lines are broken in the middle of sentences, paste the result into Remove Line Breaks to join them.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read scanned PDFs?
No. Scanned pages contain images, not text, and OCR is not supported. Pages without any text are listed in a message so you know which ones they are.
What about password-protected PDFs?
Remove the password in your PDF reader first. Encrypted files cannot be read without it, and the tool will tell you which file is locked.
Can I extract only some pages?
Yes. Enter pages like 2-4, 7 in the Pages box. With several PDFs, the same range is applied to each file.
Will Korean or Japanese text break in Notepad?
No. The .txt file is saved as UTF-8 with a BOM, which Windows Notepad recognises automatically.
