iPhones save photos as HEIC by default. The files are small and sharp, but many websites, Windows programs and older Android phones will not open them. Converting to JPG makes a photo usable anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
Why is the first conversion slower?
The HEIC decoder (about 1.3 MB) is downloaded the first time. After that it is cached by your browser.
Is photo quality kept?
“High” quality JPG looks the same as the original to the eye. PNG keeps every pixel but produces larger files.
What about Live Photos or bursts?
The still image is converted. For HEIC files that contain several images, the first one is saved.
